The long tradition of racing at Cartmel was started by the monks from Cartmel Priory in the 12th Century.
The Whit Holiday Races have been a feature of the Racing Calendar since 1856 and there are now nine race days to enjoy each year at Cartmel, set against the backdrop of the beautiful Lakeland fells.
Saturday 25th May – The first day of our racing season here at Cartmel, 2019. The Summer starts here – the track will be like a fresh carpet for the horses and we’ll hardly be able to contain our excitement as the runners come under Starter’s orders.
Seven races, funfair entertainment, trade stands and all the fun you can bring.

Monday Bank Holiday – Join thousands of racegoers at one of our most relaxed racedays on Whit Bank Holiday Monday for a fantastic afternoon of family fun with a fairground, trade-stands and seven fascinating races. Wednesday 29th May Evening Meet – The third day of the Whit Holiday meeting, Wednesday is a slightly more relaxed evening fixture with seven races and as always, the fairground will be in operation to ensure a good time for all.
