Aulis At L’Enclume

Simon Rogan is an internationally renowned, award-winning chef, recognised as one of the pioneers of the farm-to-table movement. In 2002, Simon opened his first restaurant L’Enclume in Cartmel in The Lake District, with a focus on hyperlocal and seasonal ingredients, many of which are grown at Our Farm, Simon’s farm in the Cartmel Valley. L’Enclume currently holds two Michelin stars, and was named Good Food Guide’s #1 Restaurant 2017 for the fourth consecutive year and returned to the top spot in 2019.

At our six-seater chef’s table, guests can expect a unique and interactive dining experience going ‘behind the scenes’ of L’Enclume’s kitchen. A first-look at selected dishes that will feature on the menu; a glimpse into the magic behind the scenes, where a deep respect for nature and the wild meets cutting edge technique, imagination and passion.

Cartmel Racecourse

Against the backdrop of the beautiful English Lake District, it is possible to sample national hunt racing in its most original format.

With its party crowds and funfair, Cartmel rekindles the social gathering tradition of the original steeple to steeple chases.

Cartmel only stages National Hunt (jump) racing. There are nine fixtures in the Cartmel racing calendar, commencing on the Whit Holiday weekend in May and running through the August Bank Holiday weekend. Cartmel’s most valuable race, the Cumbria Crystal Cup is staged during the July meeting.

The course itself is a sharp and narrow left handed oval. The big difference from other courses is Cartmel’s home straight which unusually veers off and dissects the main oval. The main circuit measures just over one mile and one furlong with the run-in (the distance from the last fence to the finish line) known to be the longest in the country at just over 4 furlongs.

The steeplechase course has 6 fences; these include an open ditch and a water jump. The hurdles course has four obstacles. However, as the course is narrow around the last hurdle, it is removed during steeplechase races, and then rebuilt for hurdle events.

The narrow track, sharp nature of the bends, stiff fences and undulating contours make it difficult to win from off the pace. The course is ideally suited to front running course specialists.

Ellie Heaven Designs

My name is Ellie and I am a young Illustrator from the little village of Cartmel in the Lake District who creates pretty, handcrafted keepsakes for special occasions, or simply just to make someone smile. Through the art of hand calligraphy and the soft textures of watercolour, my designs are aimed at reinvigorating the tradition of handcrafted stationery with a modern vibrancy and elegance.
My collection of greetings cards, invitations and notelets are all designed by hand and embellished with specks of gold. I am available for wedding and party stationary, whilst taking commissions for beautifully memorable, and personal cards, invitations and prints. I like to create cards that people can receive, frame and cherish, in the knowledge that they have been designed with them in mind. Choose between a luscious, elegant wreath design where you can add your favourite flowers, or a more delicate leaf design that is splashed with rays of colour. If you have an occasion in mind, I can help you to make it that little bit more special.
If you wish to contact me regarding a commission or enquiry, then please email me at ellieheavendesigns@gmail.com, or if you would simply like to keep up to date with my progress, then visit me at www.ellieheaven.com.
